EVENTS AND COMMUNITY COORDINATOR
Permanent part-time contract
About Pelican Parcels
Pelican Parcels is a Sussex-based charity established in 2018 that aims to ensure that local families and carers have the essentials for their families. The charity is growing at an incredible rate and demand for our services is high. In the first year we supported over 500 children and pregnant mums and by the end of 2025 that number had risen to helping over 6,000 babies, children and their families. We envisage the demand for our service will continue to grow. Every day, families in our community are struggling to afford basics like clothes, beds, nappies and school uniform. Pelican Parcels exists to help change that, providing practical support with dignity, care and compassion.
About this role
Pelican Parcels is looking for someone to coordinate our growing number of events to ensure that we are raising our profile, fundraising effectively and reaching out into the community.
Pelican Parcels has grown significantly in recent years, with increasing demand for our services, a growing volunteer base, and more opportunities to engage supporters, schools, businesses and community groups. As the charity grows, so does the need for a more coordinated and proactive approach to events, community engagement and supporter involvement. This role has been newly created to help Pelican build on that momentum and this is an exciting time to join Pelican Parcels and make a meaningful difference. We would like someone who can represent Pelican confidently, and who shares our commitment to treating families with dignity, care and respect.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who likes working with people in all capacities as it involves liaising with organisations, businesses and groups or individuals. Some of the work will involve supporting and working on events run by us, or that we are participating in, such as:
- challenge events (e.g. marathons, cake bakes, street parties etc)
- volunteer events (Big Help Out, community fairs, Open Warehouses, Student stands)
- partner events (school stands and assemblies, careers fairs, family hub open days).
These events play a key role in raising awareness, bringing people together and helping us reach more families.
This is a varied role so you will be someone who loves to multitask; you may be emailing supporters or potential fundraisers, finding volunteers to support events, making action plans, contacting organisations, or attending and speaking to our community – internally or externally, with donors, funders or the public. You will be working closely with our 70+ volunteers to get support with a range of events out in the community.
You will thrive in this role if you love being organised and working with people, with the ability to be confident “out and about” interacting, influencing and motivating people, or in the office with the team delivering the admin side of the role. Please note that you will need to carry and set-up event materials.
We are a small team (currently with 9 members of staff), so you will need to have the confidence and willingness to meet with organisations and attend events, often on your own. You will be working closely with all members of the team, particularly our Fundraising Manager, Volunteers Co-ordinator and Marketing & Communications team.
Importantly, we are looking for someone who can demonstrate they are passionate about wanting to help local children and families living in poverty.
